Our Policy on Diamonds
The diamonds that we use on our website are vintage stones unless mentioned otherwise. This applies to both the diamonds in the antique rings or the center diamonds that are set into our more recently designed rings.
We do not sell diamonds extracted in mines that operate with often complete disregard for those working in them. Any diamond in the marketplace without fully verifiable provenance is not a diamond that we’d consider purchasing.
“By using old diamonds, it is our intention to avoid contributing further to an industry that has at times been less than open and honest.” – Afshin Shaddaie. President of Estate Diamond Jewelry
Many of the world’s top diamond mining regions are also regions in which poverty is rampant. These locations are often war-torn between internal ideological or religious conflict. The diamond trade, unfortunately, helps fund these atrocities.
We abhor the conditions in which many mine employees work, whilst those who own the mines get steadily richer.
In 2003, an international initiative was negotiated and agreed upon, in which an attempt would be made to establish the true provenance of all the diamonds which come to market. This initiative hopes to reduce the trading conditions available to non-regulated dealers in the diamond trade. This initiative, known as the Kimberley Process is an ongoing effort to improve both the integrity and the reputation of the diamond industry today. Please note: The diamonds from the Manda Collection are not vintage.
Estate Diamond Jewelry Buying Process
By using only old diamonds, Estate Diamond Jewelry refuses to contribute to the problems that exist within the extraction process today. We wholeheartedly endorse the Kimberley Process.
We insist on examining the provenance of any diamonds or jewelry pieces we purchase, as far as is practical. By doing so, we believe we can conduct all our business with a clear conscience and the knowledge that we are helping to improve our industry for those who need it.
If we ever have suspicions about the origins of any diamonds that we are offered, we simply decline to purchase them. This strict code of conduct offers our customers confidence that they are buying a diamond that is ethically superior.
We support the attempts to monitor the mining and subsequent trading of diamonds. We believe that the communities who rely on the mines for work will benefit in the long run. Directly, through improved education and healthcare and indirectly by a steady improvement in working conditions.
Diamonds are beautiful things. It is only right that the process by which our customers enjoy them should meet the human expectations for a better world.
